The UK is bracing for heavy rainfall on Tuesday, following a weekend of sunshine, according to the latest forecast from the Met Office. A band of low pressure is set to sweep across the country from the west, bringing prolonged downpours, with the most intense rainfall expected in south Wales and the Southwest of England.
The Met Office website warns of showery outbreaks of rain affecting northern and western regions on Tuesday, with showers becoming more widespread in the evening, potentially causing disruptions in parts of the Midlands and Northwest England. However, the unsettled weather is predicted to be short-lived as temperatures are forecasted to gradually increase throughout the week, reaching highs of 27-28°C by Friday, with the East of England experiencing the warmest conditions.
Heavy rain, low cloud cover, and coastal fog are anticipated in the Southwest of England on Tuesday, with rain intensifying as it moves northeastward. Weather charts indicate widespread and heavy rain, particularly in central England by the evening, extending from Greater London to Cumbria, while showers are expected to persist in Scotland.
Overnight, the rainfall will ease into scattered showers, mainly affecting the southwest coast of England into Wednesday morning. The southeast of England is likely to remain dry with clear spells and light winds during Monday evening. Forecasters anticipate drier and brighter conditions elsewhere on Tuesday, with the southeast expected to enjoy warm sunshine and avoid the gloomy weather.
While some areas may experience wet conditions, the Met Office projects sunny spells for many on Monday, with a pleasant feel in the sunshine, albeit slightly cooler along the east coast.
