Truck Driver Denies Murdering Teen Girlfriend

Police have released CCTV footage capturing the moment a teenager was reportedly pushed by a truck shortly before her alleged fatal crushing. Mohammed Azim, a 41-year-old recovery truck driver, is facing accusations of murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend, Lily Whitehouse, in Oldbury on November 5 last year. During the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Azim tearfully denied any intention to harm Whitehouse.

The prosecution claims that Whitehouse sustained severe chest injuries when Azim deliberately used his truck to trap her against a lamppost during a dispute, describing the footage as indicating a possible nudging or pushing by Azim. Azim refutes the murder charge, asserting that Whitehouse was accidentally struck after he dropped her off near her residence.

In court, Azim emotionally recounted that he and Whitehouse, who had an intermittent relationship since 2023, were not arguing on the incident night, which coincided with his 41st birthday. He detailed picking up Whitehouse after her visit to Russells Hall Hospital to see her prematurely born baby in the neonatal intensive care unit, intending to drive her home.

Azim explained that Whitehouse requested to spend additional time with him before heading home, leading to a conversation on Old Park Lane. He denied any altercation, stating that Whitehouse insisted on accompanying him despite his work commitments. Azim described a moment where Whitehouse tried to prevent him from leaving by standing in front of the truck as he attempted to maneuver around her before hearing a noise and seeing her on the ground.

Despite initially misleading emergency services about the circumstances, Azim clarified that he was shocked and disoriented by the incident, emphasizing his disbelief at being involved. He expressed deep regret for the tragic outcome and denied any intent to harm Whitehouse. Azim also highlighted Whitehouse’s reliance on him for companionship due to her lack of friends and stated his efforts to support and understand her background.

The trial is ongoing as further testimonies are being heard.
