A man who changed his name to Santa Claus was apprehended by law enforcement in a covert operation targeting individuals seeking to exploit minors, authorities disclosed. The 75-year-old individual, previously identified as George Quigley and hailing from New Orleans, was captured by police donning a red outfit and sporting a lengthy grey beard.
According to Kenner Police, Claus was arrested for allegedly arranging a face-to-face meeting with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old boy. He is now facing charges of soliciting a minor through electronic means and inappropriate conduct with a juvenile.
Law enforcement detailed that Claus had conversed about engaging in illicit activities with the minor and had set up a rendezvous in Kenner. Upon his arrival at the designated location, detectives took him into custody.
Among the 11 persons apprehended in separate sting operations conducted by Kenner Police over the weekend was an individual who had legally adopted the moniker Santa Claus, aged 75, from New Orleans. The suspect had initiated contact via a dating app with an undercover officer he believed to be a teenage boy.
Law enforcement emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that individuals like Claus pose a threat to both children and society. Chief Keith Conley warned parents and guardians about the dangers lurking on social media and gaming platforms, highlighting the need for vigilance in protecting children from potential predators.
Chief Conley stressed the commitment of investigators in identifying and prosecuting individuals who exploit children online, emphasizing that law enforcement will continue to pursue justice to prevent harm to minors.
