“Man Arrested for DUI After Using Tractor to Rescue Crashed Truck”

A man was apprehended for driving under the influence after he showed up at a crash site in a tractor to pull his own pickup truck out of a ditch, where he had crashed it. Police in Nassau County, Florida, responded to a crash involving a pickup truck in Callahan on June 24. A witness informed deputies that the driver had already fled the scene and gone to a nearby residence. Bodycam footage depicted the white pickup truck stuck in a grassy ditch on the roadside. The individual planned to use a tractor to extract the truck and then return to retrieve the tractor.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office reported, “The driver indeed came back, this time on his tractor, to rescue his truck from the ditch.” Police body camera footage showed the man stumbling near the tractor upon his return, prompting officers to conduct a sobriety test. The unidentified man failed the test and was arrested for driving under the influence.

Deputies from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office discovered a 15-pack of cold beer and multiple open containers inside the man’s pickup truck. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that DUI laws are applicable to all motor vehicles, including tractors, and urged individuals under the influence to surrender their keys to prevent accidents.
