A freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed near a small town in the US, leading authorities to advise residents to find shelter. The incident occurred in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, at approximately 2:20 pm on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of a hazmat team to the crash site.
Reports indicate that two train cars are transporting hazardous materials, with one holding a flammable isopropanol solution. Local news sources state that forty cars were involved in the derailment. Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey confirmed that, as of now, there are no reported injuries, but there is a possibility of hazardous materials being present on the train.
The cause of the derailment is currently unknown. Pennsylvania Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick announced on Facebook that a one-mile shelter-in-place order has been issued for residents near the derailment area. He emphasized coordination with local officials, first responders, and the Department of Transportation to address the situation.
Fitzpatrick urged those within the shelter-in-place zone to remain indoors, secure pets, and close windows and doors until further notice. He requested individuals outside the area to avoid the scene and allow emergency personnel to respond safely. Updates will be provided as the situation unfolds, and support for the responders’ safety was requested.
