“Recall Alert: Amazon Coin Batteries Pose Child Safety Risk”

Amazon customers in the United States are being advised by regulators to inspect any batteries in their possession, especially if they have young children. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has issued a recall alert for coin batteries marketed on Amazon under the brand name ‘JUNPOWER Household Batteries’. Specifically, the Junpower CR2032 20-pack batteries, packaged as model 2023-V3, are being recalled due to incorrect packaging.

These batteries were retailed in four packs containing five batteries each, between December 2023 and September 2024, typically priced between $8 and $9. The flawed packaging makes it possible for young children to open the packets and inadvertently ingest a battery, posing a risk of severe injury or even death.

According to the USCPSC notice released on July 2, consumers are urged to cease using the recalled coin batteries immediately, secure them in an inaccessible area away from children, and contact Junpower for a complimentary replacement battery. Consumers are instructed to visit Junpower’s recall webpage to register for the recall process.

As part of the recall procedure, consumers will be required to mark the product with the date, their initials, and the term “Recalled” using a permanent marker. A photo of the labeled product must be submitted, and the batteries should be properly disposed of to receive a replacement battery. The USCPSC has disclosed that no injuries related to these batteries have been reported thus far. Approximately 67,000 units were sold online before the recall was initiated.
