Family Tragedy in Greece: Parents Killed, Daughter Fights for Life

A tragic car accident during a family holiday has claimed the lives of a couple and their six-month-old baby, while their seven-year-old daughter fights for survival. Lucia Sîrbu, 28, and Constantin Sîrbu, 35, from Strășeni in Moldova, were involved in a head-on collision with a lorry tanker on a road in Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula. The incident occurred as they were heading to a beach in Nea Moudania.

Lucia and the baby tragically passed away at the crash site, while Constantin was extracted from the wreckage and taken to a hospital in Polygyros. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries hours later. The couple’s surviving daughter sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where she remains in critical condition.

Local authorities, including Mayor Valentina Casian, have initiated a donation appeal to assist in repatriating the deceased family members. The mayor made a plea on social media for support, emphasizing the need for solidarity during this heartbreaking time.

Greek authorities are investigating the collision, which left the lorry driver unharmed. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly after the incident was reported, using specialized equipment to extract the victims from the vehicle. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova confirmed the involvement of four Moldovan nationals in the tragic accident and assured ongoing consular support for the family.

The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Athens is coordinating closely with Greek authorities and medical facilities to facilitate the repatriation process. The diplomatic mission is committed to providing necessary consular assistance to ensure the victims are brought back to their home country.
