Ukraine has initiated a series of drone attacks on Moscow as a retaliation for the recent major ballistic missile assault on Kyiv by the Kremlin. Additionally, Ukraine targeted three oil depots and a fuel storage facility in Russia’s Stavropol region. Kyiv also struck three Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea and four Russian ships in both the Azov and Black Sea. These actions are part of Ukraine’s strategy to exploit Russia’s defense weaknesses and disrupt its financial resources for the ongoing conflict.
Furthermore, Ukraine carried out attacks on electricity infrastructure sites in occupied Crimea, totaling seven locations. Ukrainian intelligence indicates that over the past 12 days, they have targeted 160 of Russia’s shadow fleet vessels, significantly impacting Moscow’s military funding. The drone attacks on Moscow involved more than 400 kamikaze drones, causing fires at logistical centers, an oil depot, and residential areas.
This offensive by Ukraine follows a recent Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, resulting in casualties. Despite Ukraine’s counterattacks, there is a pressing need for Patriot defense systems to intercept Russian ballistic missiles. Former US President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to authorize Ukraine to produce Patriots, enhancing Kyiv’s defense capabilities.
However, the production of Patriots within Ukraine could take years, posing a challenge as immediate defenses are required. The escalating conflict between Moscow and Kyiv underscores both sides’ efforts to demonstrate strength. Ukraine’s repeated strikes on Kremlin facilities have severely impacted Russia’s economy and military supply chains. Although Russia’s increased use of ballistic missiles poses a significant threat to Ukraine, the country’s defense capabilities remain limited.
Ukrainian cities continue to face escalating attacks, with casualties reported in the Odesa region. Odesa has been a frequent target, experiencing multiple attacks in a single day, prompting civilians to seek shelter underground. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the recent raid on Kyiv as one of the most substantial ballistic assaults since Russia’s invasion.
The surge in Russian ballistic missile launches reflects the country’s desperation, surpassing its estimated monthly production capacity within a short period. With over 100 ballistic missiles launched in less than three weeks, Russia’s aggressive tactics are evident.
