“Woman Arrested for Starting Dovestone Wildfire”

Police have apprehended a woman under suspicion of starting a large wildfire near Dovestone Reservoir. The blaze ignited at the scenic location on Saturday, July 11, around 8.30 pm, prompting a significant response. Approximately 50 firefighters with 10 engines are anticipated to work on extinguishing the fire in the following days.

A 20-year-old woman was taken into custody by the Neighbourhood Policing Team of Greater Manchester Police for alleged arson. She is currently detained for interrogation. Authorities have cautioned against circulating social media content related to the incident.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not been officially determined, online videos suggest individuals setting off fireworks in the vicinity before the fire erupted. Detective Inspector Andrew Day from Oldham CID emphasized the ongoing nature of the police investigation and urged the public to refrain from speculation while encouraging the reporting of any pertinent information.

Saddleworth Neighbourhood Sergeant Andy Holian expressed gratitude to the emergency services, particularly acknowledging the efforts of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service in dealing with the challenging conditions. Road closures persist at Holmfirth Road and Bank Lane, restricting access to Dovestone Reservoir. Public cooperation in avoiding the affected areas is requested to facilitate the safe operation of emergency services.
