Unidentified remains were discovered during the search for a missing US soldier after Iranian assaults in Jordan, as per an announcement by the US military on Sunday.
The attacks, involving ballistic missiles and drones, occurred on July 17, resulting in the confirmed deaths of two service members. One soldier was reported missing, but the US Central Command (CENTCOM) disclosed that unidentified remains have been found on the evening of July 19.
CENTCOM released a statement stating, “Following an Iranian attack on July 17 in Jordan, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the deaths of two US service members and the missing status of one individual. Earlier today, unidentified remains were located by US military personnel at the site after an extensive search. The process to verify the remains is currently underway.”
Additionally, CENTCOM revealed the death of another US service member in northern Iraq on July 18 during an incident involving the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian drone. A second service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical care.
In a show of respect for the families, CENTCOM refrained from providing further details, including the identities of the missing and deceased individuals during the notification process.
Yesterday, CENTCOM also reported that four American service members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. With the two recent fatalities, the total number of US personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began has now reached at least 18.
