“UK Braces for Stormy Weekend After Heatwave”

This weekend, certain regions of the UK may experience thunderstorms, alongside widespread heavy rainfall, as predicted by the Met Office. This follows the recent exceptionally hot weather in May, where temperatures soared above 35C in the southern parts of the country. The Met Office has already issued several weather warnings for thunderstorms during the heatwave, and further alerts may be forthcoming.

Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth from the Met Office mentioned that Sunday could bring showery rain primarily in the northern areas, with a chance of showers in the southwest. She also highlighted the potential for thunderstorms in the far north, with some showers possibly reaching eastern regions, although eastern England may see more cloud cover than rainfall.

The latest forecast from the Met Office indicates that heavy rain will progress from the west across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Saturday before moving towards Wales and England. Prior to the rain, England is expected to have warm sunny intervals, with a mix of sunshine and showers anticipated for Sunday.

High temperatures are projected to reach 29C in the southern regions on Saturday, dropping to 24C on Sunday. In the northern areas, temperatures could peak at 25C on Saturday, decreasing to 21C the following day. The BBC’s weather forecast aligns with the Met Office’s predictions, mentioning rain moving in from the west on Saturday, turning patchier in east Scotland, with sunny conditions elsewhere but potential showers in the west later in the day.

For Sunday, the BBC anticipates cooler weather with varying cloud cover, especially in the west, and a risk of showers, heaviest in the far north. Looking ahead to Monday, cloud cover and rain are expected to advance into the UK from the southwest.
