“Royal Presence Confirmed at Dueling Events”

The King and Queen have confirmed their attendance at a major sporting event happening on the same day as the royal wedding of King Charles’ nephew. Peter Phillips is set to marry Harriet Sperling in Kemble, Gloucestershire, with several royal family members, including Princess Anne and Prince William, expected to be present. Meanwhile, Charles and Camilla will be at Epsom Downs Racecourse for Betfred Derby Day to witness the 247th running of the renowned Derby.

As joint patrons of the Jockey Club, the King and Queen’s presence at the event continues the tradition of royal participation in the prestigious race. Over her 70-year reign, the late Queen only missed the Epsom Derby on a few occasions.

The horse racing event coincides with the King’s nephew’s wedding, happening nearly 100 miles away. However, it is anticipated that Charles and Camilla will attend the wedding before heading to Epsom for the race.

Jim Allen, General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse, expressed excitement about the royal couple’s attendance, emphasizing their strong support for UK horse racing. Derby Day is a cherished event attracting millions worldwide and holds a special place in British culture, with royal attendance being a longstanding tradition.

In April, it was announced that Mr. Phillips, the eldest grandchild of the late Queen, would marry Harriet on June 6 in the Cotswolds. The ceremony will take place at All Saints Church in Kemble, Cirencester. Mr. Phillips, 48, is the son of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, and the brother of Zara Tindall.

All Saints Church, situated in the heart of Kemble, is known for its active involvement in village life. Mr. Phillips resides nearby at his mother’s Gatcombe Park estate in Minchinhampton. Following his divorce from his first wife in 2020, Mr. Phillips shares custody of their two children, Savannah and Isla.

The couple’s engagement was announced last year, with Mr. Phillips and Ms. Sperling attending Royal Ascot as guests of Charles and Camilla. They were also part of the traditional carriage procession led by the royal family at the Berkshire racecourse.
