“UK Artist Seeks Help Finding Stolen Sculpture ‘Bertha’ in Ibiza”

An artist from the UK is seeking assistance in locating a famous sculpture in Ibiza that has been stolen, believed to be a prank. The sculpture, named Bertha, disappeared from the entrance of an art studio near Santa Eulalia after being a local landmark for six years, attracting tourists who often take selfies with it. Christopher Stone, the owner of Lost Artist Ibiza where the 6ft 2in, 12-stone sculpture was taken from, raised the alarm on a Facebook group for expats earlier this week.

Stone posted a plea for help, stating, “Our entrance sculpture ‘Bertha’ has been stolen. Please help us by spreading the word around Ibiza and online.” He expressed hope that the theft was a joke or prank and urged for its safe return without questions. Due to the sculpture’s distinctive nature, he believes it would be challenging for the perpetrator to openly keep or sell it. Stone mentioned that despite receiving responses from concerned individuals, no leads have been discovered regarding Bertha’s whereabouts.

A friend of Stone’s, based in the UK, reacted to the news by expressing shock and reassurance that the sculpture would be found. Local residents, including Carolyn Kroon and Clare Fisher, voiced their dismay over the incident and offered support, condemning the theft and expressing hope for Bertha’s prompt return.

Describing Bertha as a depiction of a woman wearing a large yellow hat while carrying a pig, Stone emphasized the sculpture’s significance as a local symbol of fun and eccentricity. Despite limited expectations from the police due to the absence of surveillance cameras in the area, efforts to locate and retrieve Bertha continue as the community rallies together in the search for the stolen artwork.
