Three women discovered deceased near the Brighton seafront are reportedly related. The trio, thought to be in their late teens to early 20s, tragically perished in the same incident early on Wednesday following reports of a woman in distress in the sea.
A family member, believed to be located in Jamaica, expressed shock upon learning that the bodies found at Brighton Beach belonged to their cousins. The women were enjoying an evening out before the unfortunate event, and rescuers, including a helicopter and lifeboats, were swiftly deployed to the scene at around 5.45 am to recover the bodies from the water near Madeira Drive.
Authorities are examining CCTV footage to determine the sequence of events leading to the tragedy, speculating that the women may have been swept away from the shore after venturing into the sea and potentially losing their footing on a coastal shelf.
While the police have identified the women, they are working with their families to formally confirm their identities before releasing any public statements. The investigation is ongoing, with no current indications of foul play or criminal involvement.
Local residents in Brighton have paid tribute to the victims near the discovery site, expressing sorrow and solidarity with the families. Chief Superintendent Adam Hays conveyed condolences and emphasized the importance of a thorough and sensitive investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the incident.
The tragedy has deeply affected the community, serving as a stark reminder of the risks inherent in coastal environments. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the inquiry.
