A tragic incident occurred as a woman passed away during a Brazilian butt lift procedure at a private clinic. Barbara Laura Souza Félix underwent a surgery to transfer fat from her stomach and back to her buttocks, but complications arose during the grafting phase, leading to a sudden decline in her pulmonary ventilation and ultimately, cardiac arrest.
Despite efforts by surgeons to revive the 27-year-old for over an hour, she was declared deceased at 12:20pm. The suspected cause of death is believed to be a pulmonary embolism, potentially linked to the fat transfer. Authorities initiated an investigation into the matter, and the body was sent for further examination.
Barbara, a sales worker from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, was described as a vibrant and responsible individual by her relatives. She had no known health issues and had plans to live abroad. Her tragic passing has raised concerns about the safety and response procedures associated with such surgeries.
The incident sheds light on the risks associated with gluteal fat grafting procedures, commonly referred to as Brazilian butt lifts, which have been under increased scrutiny globally due to higher complication rates. The clinic is facing scrutiny following a similar incident in 2021 where a mother also died from a pulmonary embolism at the same facility.
Barbara’s death is currently being treated as a suspected medical event and is under active police investigation in Minas Gerais.
