“Teen in critical condition after Sydney train-surfing”

A 16-year-old teenager is in critical condition after plunging from a moving train while attempting a dangerous “train-surfing” stunt in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred between St Peters and Sydenham stations in Sydney’s inner west.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene on the morning of Saturday, June 13 to attend to the young boy who fell while engaging in the perilous act of riding on the exterior of a moving train. New South Wales Ambulance personnel treated him for severe head and arm injuries before transferring him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Reports indicate that the teenager is currently in a critical but stable state. The NSW Police confirmed the incident, stating that the boy fell from the train compartment onto the tracks. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the matter, which has led to significant disruptions in rail services.

The train involved in the incident was identified as a Tangara model train, also known as a T-set. This particular train type has become a focal point in governmental efforts to address the dangerous trend of “train-surfing.” Following the incident, the New South Wales government reiterated its commitment to outfit all double-decker T-set trains with anti-surfing mechanisms by the end of 2026.
