“Murder Investigation Launched After Body Found in Sheffield Building”

A man’s body was found in the former TGI Fridays building in Sheffield, prompting a murder investigation. Two women, aged 35 and 54, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder after South Yorkshire Police responded to reports of suspicious activity at the abandoned site. The deceased man, believed to be 55 years old, has not been formally identified yet, but his family has been informed and is being supported by authorities. A cordon around the building is expected to be in place until the evening of June 12.

DCI Laura Procter, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated that enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances leading to the incident, and urged anyone who witnessed any suspicious activities near the TGI Fridays building before the discovery to contact the authorities. The two women arrested are currently in custody for questioning as part of the investigation.

Individuals with information are encouraged to contact 101 or report online, referencing incident number 897 of June 10. TGI Fridays has clarified that the Sheffield Road establishment ceased operations in January 2026 and is no longer under the company’s ownership or any related entity. The Sheffield branch was one of the 16 UK locations closed after the UK operator of TGI Fridays went into administration.
