Prince Harry and his family are set to reside at a royal dwelling during their upcoming visit to the UK due to concerns for their safety. The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to participate in the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. Following a six-month review of his request for taxpayer-funded security, the outcome has been finalized without Harry’s knowledge.
Expressing frustration with the prolonged process, a source close to the Duke disclosed that he had to adjust his stance. Originally expecting a decision within weeks, the timeline has now stretched to over half a year. Consequently, Harry has decided to accept accommodations at a royal residence for their visit during the Invictus event.
Accompanied by his wife Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet, Harry, aged 41, has previously voiced concerns about the safety of his native country. Despite declining offers to stay at a royal residence during solo trips to the UK since stepping back from his royal duties in 2020, the family is now planning to stay at Buckingham Palace for the upcoming trip.
Having faced legal challenges to retain police protection in the UK, Harry made an unsuccessful appeal last year before turning to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. Emphasizing ongoing safety threats despite his royal departure, Harry’s visit marks the first time the family will be together in the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Sources close to the Sussexes revealed Meghan’s keen interest in the Invictus Games and her determination to attend the event in Birmingham. Over the years, Harry has been embroiled in a legal dispute with the British government over the withdrawal of taxpayer-funded security following his relocation to the United States with Meghan in 2020.
Despite requests for comment, the Duke’s spokesperson remained unresponsive.
