“Over 3,000 Detained in Iran-US Conflict Crackdown”

Iranian security forces have detained more than 3,000 individuals since the commencement of the conflict with the US, alleging their involvement with the “enemy.”

Despite President Donald Trump’s assurance to rebels that assistance would be provided when the conflict erupted in February, a total of 3,296 people have been apprehended.

Around 684 individuals are facing accusations of espionage and engaging in “operational activities” for Israel, as confirmed by Tehran’s judiciary to local media. Notably, Iranian authorities have seized properties of approximately 100 of the accused in the Isfahan Province as part of a widespread crackdown.

A security expert informed the Mirror that the enforcement actions have led to numerous arrests, significant asset confiscations, heightened prosecutions on national security grounds, and an increased use of capital charges against those alleged to have collaborated with foreign foes.

The crackdown primarily targets political dissidents, ethnic minorities, activists, journalists, and individuals suspected of opposing the state. A fragile ceasefire in Lebanon, crucial for a peace agreement with Iran, has been jeopardized after Israeli forces shot and killed two individuals and injured two others in the southern region.

Hezbollah’s deputy head of the political council issued a warning, stating that the group remains vigilant and prepared to counter any breaches by the Israeli regime. The recent escalation threatens the peace process following a period of relative calm in the area.

Tensions surrounding Iran and its proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon escalated further when Iran’s chief negotiator declared a firm stance on the administration of the Strait of Hormuz, indicating a departure from pre-war practices. This assertion contradicts President Trump’s call for an unconditional reopening of the waterway, leading to uncertainties regarding vessel passage fees and regulations in the strait.

Additionally, Tehran has established a new governmental body to collect fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the necessity for vessels to register with the Persian Gulf Strait Authority before transiting. Discussions in Switzerland have resulted in an interim agreement between the US and Iran, facilitating the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, with ongoing talks aimed at establishing a permanent peace framework. Israeli officials have affirmed that troops will not withdraw from Lebanon as long as Hezbollah remains active and the current government remains in power.
