Keir Starmer to Resign as UK Prime Minister Next Week

Keir Starmer is set to step down as Prime Minister next week after leading the Labour party for six years.

During his final Cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning, Mr. Starmer reflected on his proudest accomplishments in government, highlighting achievements such as advancements in the UK economy, enhancements to the NHS, and efforts to combat child poverty.

He emphasized the positive impact his administration had on the country’s global reputation, particularly in resetting relationships with the European Union and playing a key role in international initiatives concerning Ukraine and the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

As MPs from various parties paid tribute to the outgoing PM, Keir Starmer pledged his unwavering support to Andy Burnham privately, respecting his wishes for public acknowledgment.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy also commended the PM’s legacy during the same meeting, praising his dedication to serving the people of the country, exceptional work ethic, and resilience in the face of challenges.

In a touching moment at his final PMQs, emotional scenes unfolded as Mr. Starmer received warm applause from most members of the Commons, while the Tories chose to remain seated without applauding.

The PM was honored with a standing ovation at the conclusion of the last weekly meeting, marking the end of his term in office.
