“Advocate for Lifeguards at Seaton Carew Beach Gains Momentum”

A woman deeply saddened by the lack of safety measures at a beach where her childhood friend drowned years ago is advocating for lifeguards to be stationed there throughout the summer. Becca Ringwood, a friend of Jordan Moon who tragically passed away at Seaton Carew beach 23 years ago, has been pushing for increased water safety measures. Hartlepool Borough Council leader Graham Harrison has called for a comprehensive review of the current safety protocols at the beach.

During a recent incident, Wayne Taylor and Ian Pascoe bravely entered the water to rescue Mr. Taylor’s children. While the children were saved, both men lost their lives in the process. Dan Pascoe, the son of Ian Pascoe, questioned why it takes such heroic acts for authorities to address preventable tragedies.

Ms. Ringwood, who has been advocating for lifeguards since losing her friend in 2003, highlighted the need for constant lifeguard presence at the beach. Her petition for extended lifeguard coverage has garnered significant support.

The tragic incident has reignited calls for enhanced water safety measures, including extended lifeguard services beyond school holidays. Dan Pascoe expressed gratitude to the RNLI and emergency services for their efforts and stressed the importance of raising awareness about sea dangers and implementing additional safety measures.

The Mirror’s “Save Lives For Sam” water safety campaign, supported by various stakeholders, aims to address the rising drowning crisis in the UK through initiatives such as mandatory water safety education, public awareness campaigns, improved lifesaving equipment, and the establishment of Sam’s Law and a dedicated Minister for Water Safety.
