British Paraglider Dies in Tragic Spain Accident

A 63-year-old British man tragically lost his life in a paragliding accident in northeastern Spain when he became entangled in power lines at approximately 1:20pm local time yesterday. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics who rushed to the scene, the man sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead on-site.

The incident occurred near Palau de Noguera, a quaint historical village close to the town of Tremp in the Catalan province of Lleida. It remains unclear whether the deceased individual resided in Spain or was paragliding as part of a holiday.

Authorities are conducting a police investigation into the accident, with preliminary indications suggesting that the man’s death was accidental. This unfortunate event follows a similar incident last month in the same province where a 68-year-old paraglider lost their life.

In response to the tragedy, a spokesman for the regional Generalitat government reported that firefighters received a distress call at 1:20pm regarding the paragliding mishap in the Palau de Noguera area of Tremp municipality. Fire crews from Tremp and Sort swiftly mobilized, locating the victim in a serious condition and providing initial medical assistance until the Emergency Medical Service arrived. Regrettably, the 63-year-old British man succumbed to his injuries.

In a separate paragliding accident in Portugal in July 2023, a British man faced a fatal outcome after crashing near a beauty spot north of Lisbon. Despite efforts from medical professionals, the victim, found in a challenging-to-reach location in Vale Bom, Cadaval municipality, passed away. This area, near the Montejunto Mountains, an hour north of Lisbon, is known for its scenic beauty, including windmills and quaint villages, and is renowned for its winemaking traditions.
