A 10-year-old girl suffered severe facial burns after attempting a popular TikTok challenge involving microwaving squishy sensory toys. The accident has resulted in her sustaining significant injuries, prompting doctors to issue a crucial warning to parents regarding burns, microwaves, and supervision. The young girl, identified as Violet, shared that she had placed the stress-relieving toy in the microwave to soften it, unaware of the potential risks involved.
Upon removing the toy from the microwave, Violet noticed liquid accumulating at the base. As she squeezed it, the hot contents exploded onto her face, causing excruciating pain and skin damage. Her father, preoccupied with watching the FIFA World Cup, had casually mentioned that heating the toy could make it more pliable, inadvertently contributing to the incident.
Following the accident, Violet’s parents took immediate action by calling for medical assistance and applying cold water to alleviate her pain. Unfortunately, Violet is not the only child to have suffered burns from microwaving squishy toys, with similar incidents reported in different countries. Experts strongly advise against putting toys in the microwave and emphasize the importance of prompt first aid in case of burns.
Despite the traumatic experience, Violet is progressing well in her recovery, with no lasting eye damage or scarring expected. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of mimicking online trends and mishandling household appliances, underscoring the need for increased vigilance and education among children and parents to prevent such accidents in the future.
