Arthur Fery Advances as Sole British Hope at Wimbledon

Arthur Fery stands as the sole remaining British singles player at Wimbledon, gearing up to compete against Belgian top seed Zizou Bergs in the third round at SW19, following the footsteps of his former professional tennis player mother.

Despite a lack of success for local favorites at the All England Club this season, Fery, who hails from a neighborhood near Wimbledon’s renowned grass courts, is the lone representative left in the men’s singles tournament, advancing through the early rounds with victories over Damir Dzumhur and Otto Virtanen.

The 23-year-old triumphed over Dzumhur in the opening round in four sets and staged a comeback against Virtanen in the second round, securing a win in a thrilling match on Court 18. Fery is set to face Bergs in a highly anticipated third-round clash on Saturday, marking his debut in the later stages of a Grand Slam event.

Expected to receive support from his parents during his first-ever last-32 appearance in a Major tournament, Fery’s family background, including his father, a football club president, and his mother, a former professional tennis player who later served with the LTA, adds a unique dimension to his journey at Wimbledon.

Maintaining strong connections to the football realm through his father, Loic Fery, the former owner of Ligue 1 club Lorient, Fery’s family ties and diverse sporting influences contribute to his athletic endeavors on the tennis court. Loic’s experience in football ownership, including the sale of his shares in FC Lorient to American businessman Bill Foley’s Black Knight Football Club in 2026, showcases the family’s involvement in sports business.

Reflecting on his path to club ownership and his passion for both tennis and football, Loic Fery emphasized the valuable lessons learned from his peers in the sports industry, highlighting his strategic approach to managing FC Lorient successfully over the years.

In parallel to his father’s football legacy, Arthur’s mother Olivia carved out her own distinguished career in tennis, achieving notable successes on the court before transitioning to a role within the LTA. With Wimbledon 2026 on the horizon, tickets are now available for purchase with VIP access through Seat Unique, offering fans a chance to witness the action at the prestigious tournament.
