“BBC Apologizes for Wimbledon Scoreboard Glitch”

The BBC has issued an apology to viewers following a technical fault with the scoreboard during Novak Djokovic’s match against Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon. The glitch caused the score to disappear from screens midway through the third set, forcing BBC cameras to switch to the physical scoreboard inside Centre Court. Lead commentator Andrew Cotter acknowledged the issue, assuring viewers that they were working on resolving it.

When the scoreboard eventually reappeared, viewers were surprised to see Djokovic trailing 3-0 in the third set after comfortably winning the first two sets. Djokovic’s struggles were further highlighted as he fell behind 4-0 and resorted to hitting himself on the leg multiple times during a changeover. Despite the setback, Djokovic managed to turn the match around and secured a 3-1 set victory.

The incident added to the criticism the BBC has faced during the tournament’s opening week, with complaints about their coverage of Serena Williams’ return being labeled as biased. However, the broadcaster was not solely at fault for the scoreboard malfunction, as the Centre Court feeds at the All England Club also experienced similar issues connected to the BBC.

Viewers expressed frustration over the constant channel-switching between BBC1, BBC2, and iPlayer, leading to a surge in complaints. The decision to shift BBC1 coverage away from Wimbledon to broadcast the World Cup match between England and DR Congo left many viewers feeling blindsided, as the schedule was unexpectedly altered.
