A 14-year-old girl is in critical condition at the hospital following a car crash involving a reportedly stolen vehicle she was operating.
The incident occurred in Melbourne’s south-east around 10:15 pm on Wednesday, July 29. The Honda Jazz, traveling north on Peninsula Link near the Cranbourne-Frankston Road exit, veered out of control, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times.
Emergency responders rescued two 14-year-old girls from the wreckage. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries, while the passenger had non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, and no arrests have been made so far.
According to a spokesperson from Victoria Police, the Somerville Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash involving a teenage girl driving a suspected stolen vehicle in Langwarrin.
The police statement mentioned that the vehicle lost control on Peninsula Link, rolling over several times at approximately 10:15 pm. The driver, a 14-year-old girl, was extracted from the overturned car and rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Her female passenger of the same age was also hospitalized with less critical injuries.
The circumstances leading to the collision are still under review. Authorities are requesting anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the driving behavior of the grey Honda Jazz in the vicinity before the accident to come forward.
