A leisurely outing turned tragic for Brittany Clark during a hike in Florida’s Little Big Econ State Forest with her boyfriend and best friend. While taking a swim in the Econlockhatchee River, a 13ft alligator attacked Brittany, resulting in the loss of both her arms.
In a brave attempt to save her, Brittany’s boyfriend, Chance, struggled with the alligator, but unfortunately, it was too late. Despite his efforts, Brittany succumbed to her injuries. The harrowing incident involved a ‘death roll’ by the alligator, a technique used to immobilize prey.
Chance desperately called paramedics, describing the severity of Brittany’s injuries as she lost a significant amount of blood. The rescue operation proved futile, and Brittany passed away en route to the hospital.
Following the tragic event, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission captured and killed the alligators involved. The agency expressed condolences to Brittany’s family and friends and continues to investigate the incident.
Brittany’s friend Jayden shared a heartfelt tribute, recalling the attack and the harrowing moments leading up to it. A GoFundMe has been set up to cover the expenses of transporting Brittany’s remains back to California, describing her as an extraordinary individual with a passion for pets, firearms, and motorcycles.
The Barr Street Trailhead, where the attack occurred, is now closed as a precaution. Alligator attacks on humans are uncommon in the US, with heightened territorial behavior during mating season, typically from April to June.
