British Travelers Left Stranded at Gatwick Airport Over Rogue Parking Service

Dozens of British travelers faced a distressing situation at Gatwick Airport, where they were left stranded for hours due to a problematic meet-and-greet service they had booked via a price comparison platform.

Upon their return from holidays, these individuals discovered that their cars were missing, only to later find them in various locations such as a junkyard, a hotel site, or abandoned in the airport’s short-stay car park. Some reported missing items and vehicles in unkempt conditions with low fuel levels.

One affected traveler, Lauren James from Worcester, recounted her ordeal after returning from Bordeaux. Feeling panicked and in tears, she described the situation as traumatic and stressful, leading her to vow against using a meet-and-greet service again. She highlighted booking through a website highly ranked on Google search results for “Gatwick parking.”

Similarly, Dani from Tunbridge Wells and Damien Ford from West London shared their experiences of retrieving their vehicles from unexpected locations after booking through online platforms. They expressed frustration at the lack of assistance from authorities and called for better measures to combat rogue parking operators at Gatwick.

Gatwick Airport’s Head of Car Parks, Oli Bedford, acknowledged the issue of unauthorized parking services and emphasized the importance of booking official parking for peace of mind. The airport is collaborating with law enforcement and industry bodies to address such incidents and advises passengers to research thoroughly before selecting off-airport parking providers.
