Police disclosed that the gun responsible for the tragic death of teenager Ellis Cox had been used in two prior shootings before the fatal incident two years ago. Ellis was fatally shot in the back by individuals on electric bikes in Aintree, amidst a conflict between rival factions involved in street-level drug dealing in north Liverpool.
Although Ellis was not involved in criminal activities, his companions that night were associated with a targeted gang. Investigations revealed that the firearm used in Ellis’ murder had been fired at a car in Garston and a flat in Walton in separate incidents before the tragic event. The murder weapon has not been recovered since Ellis’ death.
A reward for information leading to the case’s resolution has been extended to £20,000 by Crimestoppers, with Ellis’ family contributing an additional £20,000 to encourage witnesses to come forward. Ellis’ family continues to seek justice and urge individuals with information to step forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath stated that the incident was possibly related to disputes among groups involved in drug dealing in the area. He emphasized the importance of cooperation from individuals associated with the events leading to Ellis’ death.
Nine arrests have been made in connection with the murder, but all suspects remain under investigation. McGrath expressed confidence in nearing a breakthrough in the case and underscored the significance of bringing justice to Ellis, an innocent victim caught in criminal activities.
