The devastated parents of a teenage girl discovered deceased in a suitcase shared their profound shock at the tragic news, revealing their deepest fears had become a reality.
Tunchanok Donhomla, aged 17, went missing on June 25 in Pattaya, Thailand, with her body later found unclothed, folded inside a suitcase near railway tracks. Simon Peter Carman, a British-Australian man aged 45, faces charges of murder, body concealment, body manipulation, and involvement with a minor between 15 and 18 for sexual purposes in connection to her demise. The parents expressed being “stunned and speechless” by the gruesome incident, with the stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, conveying their disbelief upon the discovery of their daughter’s fate.
Thongchai Donhomla, 46, the father, described his daughter as a caring, generous, and independent individual, emphasizing her self-reliance due to the absence of her mother. The parents traveled from Kalasin, northeast Thailand, to Pattaya after being alerted by friends of their daughter’s disappearance, revealing that she had only been in the city for a brief period before the tragic event unfolded. Recalling her departure for a holiday with a friend, Ms. Oradee mentioned her daughter’s request for money from her grandmother to visit the sea.
Despite it being her first trip to the city known for its vibrant nightlife, the parents allowed their daughter to travel with a friend. Carman, the accused murderer, was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Thai authorities dispute his claim of the teenager vanishing while he was asleep, citing defensive neck wounds consistent with a struggle as evidence. As investigations continue, Carman faces potential life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted.
