Anxiety is growing as UFC Freedom 250 approaches, with predictions of a lightning storm hitting Washington DC during the event, potentially causing disruptions for fans and fighters. This marks the first time that the UFC will host an outdoor spectacle, leaving participants at the mercy of any weather conditions that may arise.
The event, orchestrated by Donald Trump to celebrate his 80th birthday and America’s 250th anniversary, will feature a unique showcase at the White House South Lawn, with seven bouts taking place inside an eight-sided, wire-mesh cage.
Despite the looming storm clouds, no significant rainfall has occurred at the Ellipse venue, where a live band kept the audience entertained leading up to the 8 pm start time. Prior to the event, a notification flashed on video screens warning attendees about potential severe weather and advising them to be prepared to evacuate and find shelter if necessary.
Donald Trump made a grand entrance onto the White House steps in front of the Octagon amidst the anthem of the United States. Alongside UFC boss Dana White, they waved to the crowd amid a sea of American flags while spectators chanted, “USA, USA, USA.”
Meanwhile, UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland was escorted away from the event by police officers and placed in a Park Police van. Strickland, previously a vocal supporter of Trump, claimed on social media that he was not invited to participate due to his outspoken criticism of Israel. He was seen wearing a black anorak jacket and was barefoot, with the reason for his removal unclear.
UFC CEO Dana White refuted Strickland’s claim of being banned from the event, stating that no one was banned from attending UFC Freedom 250. “Nobody is banned. Nothing is banned,” White reaffirmed to reporters earlier in the month.
