A tragic incident occurred at a bungee jumping attraction in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, where a 21-year-old woman named Maria Eduardo Rodrigues de Freitas lost her life after the staff failed to attach a safety cord, causing her to fall 130 feet into a ravine. Prior to the accident, Maria posted a message on social media hinting at her upcoming jump.
The young woman was led to the platform by two male workers who then released her without the necessary safety equipment, as confirmed by local authorities. Shocking footage shared on social media shows Maria descending without a safety rope, leading to her fatal fall. Following the incident, two men fled the scene but were later apprehended in a nearby wooded area with the help of local law enforcement.
In connection with the tragic event, a total of six individuals were brought in for questioning, with three men aged 27, 32, and 42 arrested on the scene and charged with homicide. The case is under investigation by the Civil Police to determine if further criminal charges will be brought against those involved.
The Limeira City Council expressed its intent to file a complaint against the Brazilian federal government, citing the need to establish accountability for the lack of safety measures at the site.
