President Donald Trump’s Independence Day speech has been delayed due to severe weather conditions in Washington, DC. The event organizers ordered an evacuation as intense storms hit the area on July 4th.
Authorities, including the police and Secret Service, urged attendees to leave the premises for their safety. Despite multiple announcements for immediate evacuation, some individuals hesitated to depart, leading to a mixed response from the crowd.
An announcer advised the audience to seek shelter in nearby buildings or their vehicles while the event was temporarily paused. Freedom 250, the organizing group, assured updates on the event schedule and encouraged participants to take refuge in museums and federal buildings nearby.
The US Secret Service temporarily closed screening checkpoints for the event, which was scheduled to begin at 10 pm. Military flyovers, a traditional part of the July Fourth celebrations in Washington, were canceled for the day due to the weather.
Inclement weather also affected other cities like Hartford, Connecticut, and Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where festivities were called off. Attendees at Boston’s fireworks display were instructed to seek cover briefly before the event resumed.
Fireworks displays proceeded as planned in cities like New York, where tall ships passed by the Statue of Liberty in a nod to past celebrations. The continuation of the Salute to America event remains uncertain, with Trump expected to deliver his speech at a revised time if necessary.
Despite the weather disruptions, Trump remained determined to deliver a lengthy address in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday. His commitment to the event was evident as he expressed his resolve to speak regardless of any time adjustments needed due to the storm.
