Reports confirm that a Russian missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads struck Poland. The Kh-101 cruise missile detonated upon impact in eastern Poland, a member of NATO, during the early hours of Thursday, as stated by Poland’s deputy minister of national defense, Cezary Tomczyk, who emphasized the potential danger of the missile.
Despite no injuries, the missile created a significant 10-meter-wide crater near Tarnawa Kolonia village in Lublin province, approximately 57 miles from the Ukrainian border. This incident coincided with Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, which included missile and drone attacks resulting in casualties.
In response to the missile entering Polish airspace, NATO dispatched fighter jets, with Secretary General Mark Rutte condemning Russia’s actions as reckless and a direct consequence of the conflict in Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk clarified that although indicators pointed to the missile being of Russian origin, there was no evidence to suggest Poland was the intended target.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported multiple regions in Ukraine were under attack, causing extensive damage to residential and public structures. The assault involved the launch of numerous missiles and drones by Russia, targeting various military and civilian facilities.
Ukraine successfully intercepted a considerable number of attack drones, as per reports. Russia’s military operations aimed at Ukrainian airbases, weapon production sites, and critical infrastructure facilities, resulting in significant destruction.
Following the missile incident in Poland, Kyiv’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the importance of bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses for regional security. NATO’s swift response involved deploying fighter jets, an attack helicopter, and activating ground defenses.
Additionally, Ukraine launched counterattacks on Russia, resulting in the downing of numerous drones. In a separate incident, a depot owned by Wildberries, an online retailer in Russia, caught fire, leading to injuries and damage to company facilities.
Further actions were taken against other warehouses linked to the same company, escalating tensions amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
