Princess Margaret’s grandson, Samuel Chatto, has recently announced his engagement to his longtime partner, artist Eleanor Ekserdjian. Chatto proposed with a handcrafted porcelain ring, revealing the exciting news they are planning to get married in the upcoming spring. Samuel, a 29-year-old ceramicist, is the son of Lady Sarah Chatto and Daniel Chatto, who are delighted about the engagement.
The couple, known as Sam and Ellie, reside together in London and have received warm wishes from their families. Sam’s artistic talents, influenced by his father Daniel, have been evident throughout his life. He expressed his joy in sharing the news on Instagram, emphasizing the significance of the ring he personally made for the proposal.
Sam, who is 30th in line for the throne and does not hold any official royal responsibilities, met Ellie while both were students at the University of Edinburgh in 2021. With a rich artistic background, Sam has always been drawn to creative pursuits, reflecting his childhood passion for crafting various objects.
In 2024, Sam was granted special permission to invite Ellie to join the Royal Family for Christmas at Sandringham, breaking the tradition of waiting to be married before attending the festive celebrations. This exception was previously extended to Meghan Markle in 2017, while others like Princess Kate and Mike Tindall had to adhere to the traditional protocol.
Samuel Chatto, the eldest of Princess Margaret’s grandchildren, was born in London and educated at Eton College before pursuing a history of art degree at the University of Edinburgh. His engagement to Eleanor Ekserdjian marks a significant milestone for the couple and their families.
