Prince William fulfills his royal responsibilities by embarking on official engagements across the UK and overseas, engaging with individuals, supporting charities, and actively participating in various activities.
Upon assuming the title of the Prince of Wales following King Charles’ ascension to the throne, Prince William acquired the Duchy of Cornwall, a vast property and land portfolio generating an annual private income of around £23 million for the heir to the throne.
In an interview with The Telegraph, it was disclosed that Prince William makes regular visits to different parts of the Duchy every four to six weeks, interacting with families and staff, seeking ways to offer assistance.
Despite the private nature of his visits, usually not publicized in the Court Circular, Prince William’s commitment to the Duchy of Cornwall occasionally takes him away from his residence in Windsor where he lives with his wife, Princess Kate, and their three children.
Apart from overseeing The Prince’s Council meetings and participating in various committees, Prince William communicates with Duchy staff through WhatsApp. The Duchy’s holdings, valued at over £1 billion, include extensive land, properties, and agricultural land primarily situated in southwest England.
Reports indicate Prince William’s intention to sell a portion of the Duchy’s portfolio over the next decade to address housing and environmental challenges, with a focus on key geographic areas like the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, Dartmoor, the Bath area, and Kennington in south London.
Will Bax, the Duchy of Cornwall’s chief executive, emphasized the prince’s vision of utilizing the proceeds from land sales, development income, partnerships, and borrowing to invest £500 million into targeted priorities, aiming for a positive impact on society and the environment.
Prince William’s objective is to modernize the Duchy while preserving its community and historical ties, emphasizing the importance of enhancing and modernizing the estate to meet evolving needs and challenges.
