The Norwegian Royal Family has modified their upcoming schedule due to the deteriorating health of Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the throne in Norway, has shortened his trip to Japan, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra is returning from her study abroad program in Australia.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit is battling pulmonary fibrosis, a condition causing lung scarring and breathing difficulties with no known cure. Recently, her health has worsened, as confirmed by Crown Prince Haakon and King Harald.
Expressing concern for his wife, Crown Prince Haakon mentioned her grave illness and reliance on daily oxygen support. Consequently, he has adjusted his Japan trip duration to be with the Crown Princess.
Originally planned to meet Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, the Crown Prince will now skip his visit to Hachinohe. Meanwhile, Princess Ingrid Alexandra will interrupt her studies in Australia to support her mother.
While the length of Ingrid Alexandra’s stay in Oslo is uncertain, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, with a typical life expectancy of five to ten years post-diagnosis before considering a lung transplant by the end of 2025.
In addition to her health challenges, Crown Princess Mette-Marit faced difficulties, including her son Marius Borg Høiby facing legal charges. She also acknowledged past ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, expressing regret for their association.
