A significant blaze has erupted at another popular location in the UK, prompting authorities to advise the public to steer clear of the area.
Emergency personnel dispatched eight fire engines to Barr Beacon nature reserve in Great Barr, Walsall, to combat the fire today. Law enforcement officers were stationed at three entrances to the reserve to restrict access as thick smoke rose into the sky.
In an official statement released by West Midlands Fire Service, it was stated, “We have deployed eight crews to the large grassland fire at Barr Beacon, Great Barr. Please avoid the vicinity if possible.”
According to reports from BirminghamLive, Beacon Road was shut down in both directions due to the fire, affecting traffic between B4151 Beacon Hill and Bridle Lane. Barr Beacon is renowned for being one of the highest points in the West Midlands, offering breathtaking vistas of Birmingham.
The West Midlands has seen multiple grassland fires today, with another incident confirmed at Perry Avenue. People were urged to stay away from the area after a fire ignited at Perry Hall Playing Fields, prompting the dispatch of six fire crews.
During the blaze, many families were present at the park for the European Cycle Speedway 2026 tournament. Aerial footage revealed a large expanse of scorched grass as flames rapidly spread through the meadow around 1 pm.
Further afield, a third fire is currently raging at Kingfisher Park in Hay Mills, east Birmingham, producing thick plumes of smoke and intense flames. This particular incident is reported to have started around 4 pm.
The UK has been grappling with a spate of open fires in recent weeks due to prolonged hot weather and minimal rainfall. The Government has declared drought conditions in seven regions across England, including London, East Anglia, Hertfordshire, and the West Midlands. Wales is also experiencing drought conditions.
