A woman recounted a distressing incident that occurred during a flight where she was sexually assaulted while holding her young daughter.
The female passenger was onboard a flydubai flight traveling solo with her four-year-old child. Both were asleep when the alleged assault happened as they were en route from Milan to Bangkok International Airport with a layover in Dubai. Upon awakening mid-flight, the mother discovered a man engaging in inappropriate behavior towards her.
During the six-hour journey on flight FZ-1583, the mother had taken sleeping pills, and her daughter was resting on her lap. However, her peace was shattered when she awoke to find a passenger touching her inappropriately on August 3.
She described feeling her leggings dampened and finding semen on her upper right thigh. The man quickly retracted his hand and tried to divert attention by adjusting the entertainment screen in front of her as soon as he realized she was awake. To avoid causing a commotion, the mother waited until landing in Bangkok before reporting the incident to the cabin crew and filing a police report.
Upon being confronted by the flight attendant, the man initially denied the accusations but eventually admitted to his actions. He then proceeded to make a scene, expressing remorse, and begging for forgiveness. Despite his pleas, the flight attendant insisted on involving the police as the matter was deemed serious.
The man was part of a tour group, and some members tried to intervene on his behalf, requesting forgiveness. However, the flight attendant made it clear that law enforcement needed to handle the situation. The mother’s child was promptly taken away from the scene by the captain to shield her from witnessing the unfolding events.
Subsequently, tourist police and immigration officers boarded the plane, removed the man, and took him to the police station for further investigation. Police Lieutenant Colonel Chamnanyut Konkong from the Don Mueang district station mentioned plans to mediate between the two parties to resolve the issue.
Although no charges had been pressed at the time, the victim decided to share her story publicly to raise awareness about the vulnerability of solo female travelers. She urged women not to hesitate in reporting any suspicious or inappropriate behavior and to seek help when needed.
A spokesperson for flydubai declined to provide comments on the incident, citing passenger confidentiality and ongoing investigations. Emphasizing passenger and crew safety as the top priority, the spokesperson assured the airline’s commitment to ensuring a secure travel environment.
