The Met Office has issued alerts for potential power cuts in six areas due to expected thunderstorms and rain on Tuesday.
A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for all of Northern Ireland from midday until 9pm on Tuesday, with the possibility of short-term power and service disruptions. The public is advised to take precautionary measures in light of the forecast.
To better handle power outages, the Met Office recommends preparing in advance by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.
Showers are expected to intensify on Tuesday, becoming heavy and locally thundery in the afternoon. The forecast predicts slow-moving showers with significant downpours, anticipating 20 to 30mm of rain within a couple of hours.
The warning also mentions potential strong winds, gusts, and hail accompanying the heaviest showers, which are expected to gradually ease by the evening.
In addition to power cuts, residents in the affected areas are advised to assess the risk of flash flooding and take necessary precautions. Road conditions should be checked before embarking on any journeys, regardless of the mode of transportation.
When outdoors during a thunderstorm, individuals are urged to seek shelter in a safe enclosed location, avoiding trees and tall structures that may attract lightning. If on elevated ground, moving to lower ground is advised.
Meanwhile, the Met Office predicts showers in Scotland and western parts of the UK on Tuesday, with heavy rain in the north and scattered showers in the south, along with warm and humid conditions. Northern regions are expected to experience windy weather.
