A council member who left the Conservative party to join Reform UK has now resigned from the party, criticizing them as “unfit to lead” and plagued by “toxic internal conflicts.”
Robbie Lammas, the former deputy leader of Reform UK on Medway Council in Kent, has stepped down from his position after only eight months. Lammas switched from the Tories to Nigel Farage’s party but has admitted to regretting his decision, calling it “the biggest mistake of his life” and feeling deceived.
Cllr Lammas described Reform as lacking seriousness, preparation, and competency for governance, noting that the internal disputes within the party surpass those seen in the Conservative party. He has chosen to serve as an independent council member but aims to eventually rejoin the Conservatives.
Acknowledging his error in leaving the Conservatives, Lammas offered an apology to Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch, emphasizing that the values of the Conservative party align more closely with his own beliefs. He highlighted the progress made by Badenoch in reshaping the Conservative party.
A spokesperson for Reform UK stated that Lammas had been previously suspended pending an investigation into his behavior, resulting in a formal warning. Despite recent successes in local government elections, controlling over 30 councils, Reform UK looks forward to upcoming elections in Medway.
