“Massive Cannabis Factory Discovered in Abandoned Chicken Unit”

Police uncovered a substantial cannabis factory hidden in an abandoned chicken unit, where criminals cultivated drugs worth £500,000. The operation, located near Burbage village in Wiltshire, housed over 1,500 plants, making it one of the largest discovered in the region. Authorities estimated that the illegal farm consumed around £1.5 million worth of electricity from the national grid due to its sophisticated setup.

The discovery was made by a member of the public on July 17, leading to the removal of the hazardous electricity supply by engineers. Wiltshire Police shared a video showcasing the extensive drug factory, which included living quarters alongside approximately 1,300 plants ready for cultivation and distribution.

The living space within the barn featured bedding, a toilet, and a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, sink, and washing machine. Detective Sergeant Joe Shanklin described the setup as where the criminals lived and prepared food. The police highlighted that the site had essential amenities like ventilation, power, and water, indicating a significant operation.

Authorities emphasized the scale of the operation, noting its remote location and the time required for safe dismantling in collaboration with utility companies. Wiltshire Police confirmed ongoing efforts to catalog and remove equipment and plants, with the cannabis slated for destruction. While no arrests have been made yet, an investigation has been launched.

Detective Sergeant Shanklin pointed out the illegal electricity connection from the national grid used to power grow lamps and irrigation systems. The presence of living quarters within the barn suggested multiple individuals resided on-site for an extended period. Wiltshire Police encouraged the public to report suspicious activities related to illegal drug operations for prompt action.
