“Man’s Death After Flight Altercation Remains a Mystery”

An inquest revealed that the cause of death of a man with three children who died following an incident on a Jet2 flight remains unknown. Callum Kerr, 35, was involved in a mid-air “altercation” on a flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Manchester on June 22. Greater Manchester Police reported that Kerr was restrained after allegedly assaulting a passenger and a cabin crew member.

Kerr, accompanied by his partner, had consumed alcohol during the flight and was informed by the cabin crew that no more drinks would be served. An altercation occurred between Kerr and other passengers as the flight approached Manchester. Despite being asked to return to his seat, Kerr refused and was subsequently restrained on the floor by passengers and a cabin crew member.

Police were called, and the plane landed in Manchester, where officers boarded and handcuffed Kerr, who was found unresponsive. CPR was initiated, and Kerr was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, where he passed away the next day. Investigations by the police, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), and Jet2 are ongoing.

The coroner is awaiting the final cause of death to proceed, with a follow-up hearing scheduled for February 8. Kerr’s parents attended the hearing via videolink, and in a tribute, his family described him as a devoted family man and sports enthusiast. The police, IOPC, and Jet2 are investigating the circumstances leading to Kerr’s death without indications of officer misconduct.
