Man’s Body Found in Plane’s Landing Gear at Gatwick

The body of a man was discovered in the landing gear of a plane upon its arrival at London’s Gatwick Airport.

It is believed that the stowaway managed to hide in the aircraft’s undercarriage before the Air Arabia Maroc flight departed from Tangier, Morocco.

The body was found on Tuesday, June 16, when the plane landed in the UK at approximately 11:30 am.

According to a source from The Sun, the discovery was described as a tragedy, with the cargo team unloading the plane facing a distressing moment. The incident has raised concerns about security protocols in Morocco.

The airline based in Casablanca released a statement acknowledging the incident upon arrival at Gatwick. The flight in question was the 3O102 from Tangier to London Gatwick, and relevant authorities were promptly informed.

The statement expressed condolences for those affected and assured close collaboration with authorities for further investigation.

Sussex Police confirmed the discovery of the man’s body in the aircraft’s undercarriage at Gatwick, with investigations underway and preparations made for the coroner’s involvement.

A spokesperson from London Gatwick stated that emergency services responded to the incident on June 16, emphasizing support for the police and the coroner in handling the situation.

This incident is not the first of its kind in the UK. In a similar event in 2019, a stowaway fell from a Kenya Airways plane’s landing gear near Heathrow, resulting in a fatal outcome. Previous cases have highlighted the extreme risks and challenges faced by stowaways attempting such journeys.

The dangers for stowaways include risks of physical harm, hypothermia, hypoxia, and potential hearing damage due to the harsh conditions outside the aircraft during flight.
