Fatal Fire Forces Evacuation of Dominican Resort

An Italian visitor has passed away, and nearly 1,700 guests were forced to leave a high-end resort in the Dominican Republic due to a significant fire incident.

The fire ignited at the Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham property in Bayahibe on Friday. Situated on the southeastern coast of the Caribbean country, this resort is a favored spot for both American and international vacationers.

Officials reported the death of Francesca Valentino, aged 46, in the fire, with approximately 1,690 individuals evacuated from the resort to alternative accommodations and nearby residences because of the extensive blaze.

According to the Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Centre, the fire escalated quickly, aided by strong winds and the presence of thatch roofing on parts of the resort. Fortunately, the fire has been successfully contained.

The neighboring Viva Wyndham resort, Dominicus Palace, remained unharmed by the fire and continued its operations without interruption, as confirmed by the center.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
