“Lidl Expands Self-Scanning Service in UK Stores”

Lidl is set to introduce its Lidl & Go self-scanning service in an additional 37 stores across the United Kingdom. This service allows customers to conveniently scan products using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping and then finalize their purchases at the checkout, aiming to streamline the shopping experience by saving time.

The expansion of this feature will be rolled out in phases, starting in Scotland, the South East, and other locations in Southern England throughout July. The initiative follows a successful trial at seven initial stores, including Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.

Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, expressed positive feedback from the initial phase of Lidl & Go, highlighting customers’ appreciation for the control and visibility it offers in managing their spending and shopping at their own pace. The upcoming wave of stores will make this feature accessible to a wider customer base, with continuous adjustments based on user feedback.

In addition to this development, Lidl recently revamped its loyalty program, Lidl Plus, enabling users to earn one point for every pound spent in-store. These points can be redeemed for free products or discounts on purchases. The new system, which replaces monthly spending thresholds, provides greater flexibility to shoppers, although some have raised concerns about the revised spending requirements for earning rewards.

According to a Lidl spokesperson cited in The Grocer, users may accumulate more points than anticipated through various promotions, such as Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on selected items. This loyalty scheme adjustment aims to enhance the shopping experience for Lidl customers, offering them more opportunities to benefit from their purchases.
