A teenage boy in Birmingham sustained severe injuries from a shooting incident, as confirmed by the local police. The 16-year-old victim was swiftly taken to a hospital following the attack on Bowyer Road near St Saviours Road in Alum Rock around 5:30 pm on Wednesday. West Midlands Police stated that despite the proximity of the shooting to a mosque, they currently do not believe there is any connection between the two.
Law enforcement mentioned that their investigation is in its early stages, with officers present at the scene conducting forensic examinations, reviewing CCTV footage, and engaging with the community. They acknowledged the concerns of the local residents and assured that officers would be available to address any worries.
Reports indicated a significant presence of emergency services on Bowyer Road, with a police cordon set up earlier in the day. In response to the incident, Councillors Nosheen Khalid and Shaukat Mahmood urged the public to avoid spreading rumors online and to stay away from the affected area.
The councillors expressed their sympathy for the victim, their family, and all those impacted by the unfortunate event. They advised residents to steer clear of Bowyer Road leading to St Saviour’s Road or Arden Road due to the ongoing police operation and to follow any necessary diversions. They emphasized the importance of unity, compassion, and respect within the community during such challenging times, urging people not to share unverified information or media from the scene to prevent additional distress to families and potential interference with the police inquiry.
The statement concluded by urging the public to give emergency services the necessary space to carry out their duties effectively and to keep those affected in their thoughts and prayers.
