“King Charles & Queen Camilla Wow at Glasgow Comm Games”

King Charles and Queen Camilla made a spectacular entrance at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. They emerged from the iconic Doctor Who Tardis, a time-travelling machine, to a warm reception at the Hydro stadium. The Tardis, inspired by a police box design, was seen journeying through space and time, showcasing Scotland’s famous landmarks like Loch Ness, Edinburgh Castle, The Kelpies, and more.

The ceremony kicked off with a nature-themed display, highlighting Scotland’s stunning landscapes and paying homage to the 1988 Garden Festival in Glasgow. The Tardis, symbolizing Time And Relative Dimension In Space, flew over the University of Glasgow, adding to the excitement as it toured Scotland with unexpected operators like Sir Chris Hoy and actor Greg McHugh.

After visiting various Scottish landmarks, the Tardis landed at Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s residence in the Highlands. King Charles officially opened the games, expressing gratitude and emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation, particularly in addressing plastic pollution in oceans.

With 3,000 athletes from 74 nations, the games will unfold across multiple venues in Glasgow over ten days. The Hydro stadium, resembling ancient amphitheatres, will also host the closing ceremony, featuring 10 sports. Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, anticipated a remarkable event and encouraged athletes to compete with pride and passion in front of the royal attendees.
