“Hawaiian Airlines Introduces New Pre-Order Meal Policy”

Hawaiian Airlines has introduced a new policy affecting passengers starting in July, discontinuing complimentary meals during flights. Previously, travelers flying between Hawaii and the US mainland enjoyed free meals as part of the service.

In a recent update, the airline announced that complimentary meals will no longer be provided automatically. Passengers will now need to purchase pre-selected meals from a new menu between two weeks before their flight and 20 hours prior to departure. Meal prices are anticipated to range from approximately $10 to $17 per meal.

Notably, flights between Honolulu and New York’s JFK International Airport will still include complimentary meals for Main Cabin passengers. The menu, crafted by Maui-based chef Sheldon Simeon, features local favorites such as crispy mochiko chicken with garlic noodles and barbecue teriyaki chicken bento.

Passengers can also sample signature dishes inspired by Simeon’s restaurants, including K mayo, teriyaki sauce, and banana bread syrup. Alisa Onishi, Managing Director of Hawai‘i Marketing at Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to authentic Hawaiian hospitality while introducing the new dining option for passengers.

The airline’s shift to a pre-order model aims to provide a wider menu selection that aligns with evolving dining preferences. Business Class and First Class menus are being updated, with complimentary snacks remaining available during flights.
