“English Fan with 1966 Legacy Eyes World Cup Final”

An English supporter is envisioning a World Cup final appearance for the national team due to his attendance at the 1966 victory alongside his father.

Dave Thompson, a businessman and avid Everton fan, went to Wembley with his father, Keith, who won tickets through a raffle at Chelmsford City in Essex, where he played semi-professional football.

As the owner of Marine Travel, Thompson recalls only the thunderous noise from that historic match and holds tickets for the group stage and the final of the upcoming World Cup.

Thompson, based in Canterbury, Kent, shared that his American excursion, including travel and tickets, totaled around £20,000, emphasizing his commitment to attending tournaments since 2010.

Having been to World Cups in South Africa, Brazil, Russia, and Qatar, Thompson, also the President of Marine FC and an Everton season ticket holder, expressed his dedication to supporting the England team exclusively during the tournament.

Despite returning home for work midway through the competition, Thompson expressed his willingness to return to the US should England secure a spot in the final.

Before the clash against Ghana in Boston, Thompson enjoyed a fishing outing and is eagerly anticipating England’s chance to advance to the knockout phase with a victory.

Ghana’s goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, hailing from St. Gallen in Switzerland, is optimistic about his recovery from a groin injury sustained during a recent match against Panama, with hopes to face England in the upcoming game.

Goalkeeper coach Daniel Gaspar is positive about Ati-Zigi’s chances of playing against England, indicating promising signs of recovery after initial concerns about his tournament participation.
